I just bought a 2nd hand 32GB White 3Gs. The guy I got it from said it was a padala from the US so I assumed that it used to be carrier locked. I'm using it with a globe sim now. But as I researched here and checked the part no of my phone (MC134ZP), it seems that my unit is from HK and factory unlocked. I've been wanting to upgrade to 4.0 but scared to have my phone converted to an iPod touch. Can anyone please confirm if I can do it without worries now? Thank you

elevenineteen, yes your iphone's country of origin is hong kong and it should be naturally/factory unlocked. you can safely upgrade it to 4.0.1 (not 4.0) and it will activate normally. you can jailbreak it too if you want.

The only way I can think of is hardware related.

One other way is Carrier Official Unlocking. But knowing Globe, tough luck for all of their subscribers.
