These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak of your iPhone 4S using Absinthe for Mac and Windows

Warning***: Before you continue make sure to do a backup of your device in iTunes as you may lose your Camera Roll during this process.

Absinthe v0.3
Chronic Dev Team has released a new version of the A5 jailbreak tool Absinthe.
Don't reapply if your 5.0.x device is already jailbroken as it won't change anything.
The untether payload is exactly the same, only the computer part has been improved for stability issues.

Step One
Download the latest version of Absinthe V0.4 for MAC from here.

Download the latest version of Absinthe V0.4 for WIN from here.

Download the latest version of Absinthe V0.4 for Linux (x86/x86_64) from here.


Step Two
Double click to extract the downloaded archive and launch the Absinthe application.




Step Three
As prompted, connect your iPhone 4S to the computer via USB.



Step Four
Click the Jailbreak button to begin



Step Five
The application will take you through several steps of the jailbreak: Sending initial data, waiting for reboot, waiting for device to finish booting, Preparing jailbreak data, and Sending payload data.



Step Six
You will be informed that the jailbreak is 'Almost done'.



Step Seven
On your device, locate the Absinthe icon and press it to complete your jailbreak. It could be on any homescreen.



If the server is down and you get an Error establishing a database connection message then tap the Settings icon on your springboard and turn on VPN.



You will get a configuration error; however, after about a minute your device will reboot with Cydia on the Springboard!

Note :
If tapping absinthe loader app does not install cydia,
toggle on switch in settings/vpn, it will error out and reboot,
then you will have cydia.
If it does not reboot, try again,
if still the same,
Back up in iTunes then restore device (or do erase data and settings) and set up as new,
then do absinthe JB before restoring from back up.

NOTE: length of JB procedure depends on amount of data in the device. More data, longer wait time. Newly restored and set up as new, 3 minutes for whole procedure.

Like Spirit of old, the latest jailbreak forgets to set the “don’t delete the camera roll” flag.
Even though you should be doing backups before applying new jailbreaks, don’t get alarmed just yet if you have an itchy jailbreak trigger finger. With a brief explanation, a post at [redacted] states that the behavior “is not an error in the application it’s just an uncompleted jailbreak.” The blog entry goes on to explain that users should rerun the app to “fix” the issue and fully complete the jailbreak.

The second tip regarding the application of Absinthe was made via a tweet through their @Jailbreak account.
When jailbreaking with Absinthe Greenpois0n : Do not have a passcode set.
I'm not sure as to whether these issues were addressed in the most recently released version.

Another thing, if absinthe loader or toggling vpn does not work, you can just unplug from computer and do loader/vpn later when servers are not too busy. You just need your device to be connected to wifi to do laoder/vpn.
