Fix Error 1600/3194/This Device Not Eligible for Requested Build on Restore to the Latest Firmware
This thread will present solutions on how to bypass the following errors below when restoring to the latest firmware still being signed by apple. I repeat, this fix only applies for these three errors only when
RESTORING TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE.
If you are getting 3194 error on restore to a firmware
THAT IS NOT THE LATEST, this fix is not for you.
You should be reading this thread about SHSH!!
A brief explanation that you may be getting these errors is that your hosts file is pointed to Cydia instead of Apple. TinyUmbrella edits your hosts file to point to Cydia in certain settings. Since Apple always signs the latest firmware, you should have your hosts file pointed to Apple servers or else you get the two errors above.
To check if your hosts file is directed to Apple, click this: gs.apple.com <-----
If you see this, your hosts file for gs.apple.com is pointing to Apple and you are good to start restore.
If you see this, your hosts file entry for gs.apple.com is pointed to Cydia and you need to do one of the fixes below.
Fix 1: Using TinyUmbrella.
Mac/Win
*Download TinyUmbrella to your computer from
thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/
*Open TinyUmbrella
*Go to advanced tab
*Uncheck "set host file to Cydia on Exit"
*Close TinyUmbrella
*Browse gs.apple.com
*If you see apple 404, you are set to restore to latest firmware. If still cydia, reboot computer and check again. If still same, do Fix 2 below.
Fix 2: Manually editing your computer's host file
Mac
* Open Finder
* Hold down COMMAND + SHIFT keys and press 'G'
* Enter "/private/etc/" in the field and press "Go"
* Find "hosts" file in the directory
* Drag the file to your desktop
* Open it in text editor
* Remove the line that has gs.apple.com entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out
* Save the file
* Drag it back to the /private/etc/ folder.
* You'd need to enter your username and password to authenticate the move
Windows
* Find Notepad, right click, Run as Administrator
* Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
* Choose "show all" in drop down and choose Host
* Delete all lines with "gs.apple.com" in it
* Save
* Reboot PC <--
VERRRYYY IMPORTANT!!!
After doing the above fix, click this again to make sure you did it right:
gs.apple.com.
Remember you should be seeing Apple 404 page. If you see Apple, you may now start your iTunes restore.
