At today's press event, Steve Jobs announced a full revamp of the iPod line. The new iPod shuffle is smaller than the 2nd generation device and brings back something that many users missed with the previous model. Specifically, buttons!






VoiceOver. It tells you what you want to hear.

Give your songs a voice.
Say you’re listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. Just press the new VoiceOver button on top of your iPod shuffle, and it tells you.3 You can even use VoiceOver to hear the names of playlists and switch between them. And if your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too.



The new shuffle has a familiar-looking click wheel on the small postage-stamp shaped model that was introduced a few years ago. It will hold 15 hours of music, is available in 4 colors and sells for US$49. The iPod shuffle, and all models introduced today, will go on sale (pre-orders) today, with expected delivery next week.

iFixIt has posted their teardown of the iPod Shuffle 4G rating it a 2 out of 10 for repairability.

iPod Shuffle 4th Generation Repairability: 2 out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)
● Good: The control pad is attached to the logic board via a connector, allowing it to be easily separated.
● Good: The lack of a screen eliminates a large weak point of other devices, making the Shuffle more resilient to falls. Just don't flush it down the toilet.
● Bad: You essentially have to break it to open it.
● Bad: The battery is soldered to the logic board, making replacement that much more difficult.
● Bad: Apple keeps shrinking connectors. These super-small cable connectors are increasingly difficult to open without breaking them.

Well, at 49$, you wouldn't be expecting the iPod shuffle to be serviceable. It was probably designed not to be opened.
