There is no such thing as an "automatic update" in iOS. You will always have to explicitly tap on the "Download and Install" button for it to perform the update :-). It also takes your focus from the background to the foreground. But that's just me. There are two major schools of learning in IT (or what is now being fondly called ICT (Information and Communications Technology) - Computer Engineering (CE), which basically deals mostly with hardware, and Computer Science (CS), which, for the most part, deals with software and systems. If you're into the management side of things, there is also what is known as Peopleware :-) Both schools carry a very broad and vast array of subject matters and while it is good to be able to be learned in all areas, speciality, or having competence in a specific area, e.g. software development, network engineering, systems administration, graphics design, etc, is still the key in being a successful IT practitioner. Ask yourself this - where am I strong at and what do I like doing? A lot of times, we tend to jump the ICT bandwagon just because this is the "in" thing and everybody is doing it, or probably because that is what your parents want you to take. But the question you also have to ask yourself is, "do I have the knack for it?" If you want to become a programmer, "do I have good logic formulation skills? Do I easily know or figure out how systems work?" Remember, in programming, it is important that you have a good logic formulation background. The medium or the language doesn't matter.. whether it's C++, dotNet, PHP, HTML, ASP, etc., all of it is just a matter of semantics and syntax. The language or medium can change all they want, but the logic remains the same. ;-) If you want to become a computer graphics artist, "just how good are my design skills? Are my hand renderings good enough? Is my visual acuity that good? How good are my conceptualization skills?" Again, you also have to remember, the graphics softwares out there are just tools.. you need to have very good basic hand drawing skills first, and then use/apply the tools available to you as an extension of your expression :-) What is important at this stage is learning the basics and developing from there. Build a strong foundation first, then work your way up in the field you would want to specialize in. In work, as is in life, if all else fails or if everything seems to be going wrong, you can always go back to the basics and you'll never go wrong. It's like that in anything and everything we do.. If all else fails, switch to the basics :-) Just like in jailbreaking.. if the jailbreak doesn't work, what is the most basic thing to do? Restore.. what is the most basic thing to learn about doing a restore? DFU!! ;-) Another key ingredient in being successful, whether in IT or any course for that matter, is being self-reliant and being able to keep pace with developments and events. Read!! and keep on reading... read up on things that interest you, and even on things that don't. In life, as I have learned, being a wide-reader has its perks ;-) A lot of the things in ICT is not learned from school. It is learned in the field. The schools just teach you the basics.. Majority of the "specialization" is learned not from colleges but from people in the field, the practitioners.
