Error Codes - What they mean and How to solve them 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 143
As requested by alot of appleites... let's start this thread and hopefully we can compile an exhaustive list with solutions on how to fix the common error codes we encounter in iTunes.

Error 1600-1604
Problem: Not in proper DFU mode / firmware not supported
Solutions: Try the fix posted here. Or How To DFU here. Also try changing USB ports, and rebooting your computer.

Error 1, 2, 5, or 6
Problem: Corrupted Firmware
Solution: Redownload your official firmware or make another custom firmware

Error 20
Problem: Invalid Device Driver
Solution: Switch USB port. Restart Computer. If still persists, reinstall the MobileDevice Driver.

Error 1012-1015
Problem: Baseband not compatible with your firmware
Solution: Either downgrade your baseband or upgrade your iPhone to the firmware matching your current baseband

---------------------------
I'll update the first post as more people post their discoveries and solutions in this thread. Proper credits will be given to the one who found the solution.

Error (12) --- OK first thing i learned, Don't panic. Thanks goes to Ranma, kensweb, loko and incident for hanging tough with me! Here's some detail for those who will encounter the same error:

Ok first: On 1.1.4 Jailbroken via iLiberty. Updated via opt/update using applei custom FW
Error 12 after restore (with i logo stuck)

--- Left it on for about 5 minutes while panicking... closed itunes, disconnected the phone, reconnected (iTunes identified the phone for restore --- hard boot (10/10 --- to force another restore and turned off the iPhone by holding power button and home button... released power button while holding on to home button when apple logo came up....)

Next thing: Held Option/Restore button (since update button is greyed out)
Loaded the custom firmware again ... and this worked: Restoring software ---

the i logo now has the progress bar. Itunes then verified the software, restoring etc... took a while something like 7 minutes or so, but went patient with it... lumusot after awhile... just be patient.

Eventually nagreboot on its own without me doing a thing... bootneuter na... just follow on screen advise: don't do anything .. just pray =) ... after 2-4 minutes Success... and HOMESCREEN! Whooosh!

Error (13) - not really sure what this error means yet but I encountered it on 2 different phones when trying to shift-upgrade to 2.1.

Solution: After the error, reboot your iphone by holding the home and power button until you see the boot logo. The iphone will then be in recovery mode. shift-restore will now be successful. (although it's not shift-upgrade as before).

Hi Ranma, yes, you're correct, it's always the shift-restore that works.
